How are menstrual cups eco-friendly?

Reusable menstrual cups, including The Vampire Shot Glass, are eco-friendly.

9,129 tampons, that’s the number of tampons an average tampon-wearing menstruator will use in their lifetime.

200,000 metric tons, that’s the amount of annual waste generated by tampons, pads, and panty liners.

It also takes between 6 months and 5 years for tampons to decompose— but that doesn't include the plastic applicator, which can take upwards of 500 years to degrade.

Not only are the vampires appalled by all the fresh blood that ends up in landfills, our planet can no longer support disposable period habits.

The world’s most common period products are not sustainable. Let’s repeat that for the vampires in the back: single-use 👏 period products 👏 are not 👏 sustainable.

Plastic. It’s everywhere, it’s in our water, oceans… and period products. Based on an article on CNN, one menstrual cup “produces an estimated 0.4% of the plastic waste that single-use pads build-up, or 6% of that created by tampons in the span of 10 years”. Um, hold my shot glass, that is a huge amount of plastic rescued from being inevitably wasted!

The Vampire Shot Glass is made of sustainable high-quality medical-grade silicone and is the most environmentally sustainable period product you can use. It is a reusable menstrual cup, as opposed to some of the disposable, single use cups and disks out there in-store today (so if you’re looking for an environmentally-conscious product, those are not the vibe).

We know what you’re thinking… Should you replace your reusable menstrual cup eventually?

Yes, eventually. Most menstrual cups are replaced after 2-4 years, though they can last up to 10 years when taken care of properly! Purchasing one menstrual cup will neutralize soooo much of the carbon footprint otherwise left by single-use period products, and save you a fangtastic amount of money, too!

Not only does using a menstrual cup generally prevent waste, but The Vampire Shot Glass also goes the extra mile for sustainability. Our menstrual cup production is 100% made in the USA. We’ve made the decision to keep production stateside to reduce CO2 emissions. The carbon footprint of individual human beings is largely affected by the transportation of the goods we use.

While we’re here talking about CO2, can you name another major contributor to the individual’s carbon footprint? Heating/cooling our homes! Yet another advantage vampires have over humans — no need for a thermostat!

Vampire jokes aside, our company is committed to reducing the number of carbon-emitting trips our menstrual cups take before getting into our customers' vaginas, even if that means our profits are less. There’s nothing more important than the health of our planet.
